A fabulous seaside location, originally occupied by a conventional bungalow, our clients wanted us to rethink the planning approval that already existed for a replacement dwelling, to change the layout, make the very most of the natural light and views, and incorporate a fully structural oak-frame throughout. The sea views are to the north, so creating an open-plan arrangement, taking advantage of the vaulted ceilings that oak-frames make so attractive, ensured sunlight from the southern side of the house penetrated throughout. The overall height of the building was restricted, so the fully vaulted first floor rooms maximise the sense of space.
