I studied architecture at Cambridge University, and afterwards worked on a varied portfolio of projects, while employed in an architectural practice in the same city. Projects included designs for Cambridge University Colleges, Churches and Cathedrals, and National Trust properties.
Taking some time out from the world of architecture, I spent two years employed by an Herefordshire company that specialises in the repair and conservation of historic buildings, where I was involved in projects for English Heritage and the National Trust.
Having enjoyed combining my design skills with a hands on knowledge of the construction processes, I completed a two year course in cabinet making. During this time I designed and started building a traditionally jointed oak framed building (see pictures here) in woodland that I jointly own with a friend, using timber and other materials sourced from the site and as locally as possible.
