A sloping site offered our clients the opportunity to capture amazing wooded views over the valley beyond. The house steps down at the rear, with a semi-basement containing an indoor swimming pool opening out onto a terraced garden. Dramatic ‘sling-braced’ oak trusses create a majesty to the main entrance hall that doubles as a grand dining room. Attention to detail is everywhere; the traditionally designed oak-frame that is visible internally and externally; the diminishing course slate roof; the immaculate stonework with brick detailing around windows and doors; the ornate brick chimneys; the bay windows with jettied oak-frame gables extending over them. A tribute to the builder and client who understood the impact that taking care over design, materials and construction techniques has on the finished building.
