A replacement of a drab bungalow on a sloping site, in rural Herefordshire.
Planning restrictions meant that overall height was a key issue, not helped by the fact that the main entrance to the site was downhill from the building, making it appear taller straightaway. In spite of this we were able to gain approval for a ‘storey and a half’ style building, which gave far more flexibility to create a family home for our clients.
Where previously the bungalow had not taken advantage of the attractive views, the new house now has glazing and access to the south, where the private garden extends beyond the sheltered area created by the ‘L’ shaped plan.
